Kelly Tarlton's Antarctic Encounter and Underwater World

An all weather 'close up' interactive experience of the Southern Oceans. The journey begins with a walk through a life-size reconstruction of Captain Scott's Antarctic Hut, frozen in time since 1911. Then it is back to the present as you board a Snow Cat ride. Travel through an Antarctic landscape of real ice and snow to see the live King and Gentoo Penguins.

Continue your journey beneath the sea in the original Underwater World to come face-to-face with giant stingrays, moray eels, thousands of fish and those predators of the deep - the Sharks. All these creatures are only centimeters away, on the other side of the unique acrylic underwater tunnel!

Also in the Underwater World is the NIWA Discovery Room, a fantastic marine discovery center for children. Here you can touch, experience, experiment and explore as you discover and learn about the marine environment.

STINGRAY BAY NOW OPEN:
Stingray Bay shows off Kelly Tarlton's stingrays to their best advantage in a giant 350,000 litre open topped acrylic tank allowing visitors to view these remarkable winged creatures at close quarters. There will be opportunities to learn more about the stingrays from staff as you can now hand feed them.

The Stingray Bay development also includes an interactive area for children including touch screens, new bathroom facilities and a new loading area for the snow cat ride. There are also large picture windows with views over Okahu Bay.

See real live Penguins, explore the Antarctic landscape in a Snow Cat, take a journey beneath the ocean and come face to face with ferocious sharks. All that and much more as you take a journey through New Zealand's leading visitor attraction.
